Overview

In Steven Spielberg and J. J. Abrams’ homage to the movies they loved as kids—and their own attempts to recreate them with their friends—a group of middle schoolers dedicate their summer vacation to the filming of a zombie movie and inadvertently witness an accident the government would like hushed up. As weird things start happening all over town—and in their own homes—they must learn to confront these confusing realities.

Joe carries his mother’s locket as a reminder of his loss. His father and Alice’s father carry grudges against each other for the events that led to and followed the factory accident. And, as Joe discovers, even the monster’s actions are reactions against past hurts.

As the threat of the monster draws near, many of the characters must risk something important—even their lives—to save someone they love.
