Overview
Sometimes God’s plan seems odd and appears to be a social faux pas. Most everything about Jesus was unusual. His teaching didn’t conform to traditional thought; his methods were radical; his redemption plan unfathomable; his followers primarily the unaccepted; his disciples mostly unpolished; and his courier to announce his arrival was just plain weird. Nonetheless, John the Baptist was God’s man and played a huge role in ushering in the reign of the Messiah. Even his beginnings were unusual, including a foretold birth; a predetermined name; his dad’s holy laryngitis; an elderly mom; and dad’s returning voice—yes, this was an unusual beginning.
