Man on Fire is a violent thriller about a bodyguard’s quest to rescue a kidnapped girl in Mexico City. John Creasy, an American looking for work after a dispiriting experience in anti-terrorism efforts back home, takes a job protecting the daughter of a wealthy couple from the city’s organized crime lords. When the little girl is taken, he plunges headlong into a series of vengeful acts against those villains he can identify. As he does, his knowledge of Scripture seeps into his violent heart, leading him toward a crucial decision.

This study guide will help you discuss the deeper themes of the movie. What does the film say about the proper response to worldly evils? How far should we respect law and order in our desire to make right a wrong? Is violent revenge an appropriate response to evil? How far does God’s forgiveness go in covering our sins? What must we do for that forgiveness to take place? What effect does the love of money have on a heart? Or the love of strong drink?
