Overview

“Beam me up, Scotty.” We’ve all seen the bumper stickers, or at least observed our culture’s fascination with the possibility of UFOs and alien life. Perhaps the attraction comes as a response to the pain and struggle of life on Earth. We think, There must be something beyond this. In the film K-PAX a self-proclaimed alien appears in a hurting and violent cityscape. Although his arrival and message land him in a psychiatric hospital, this mysterious stranger instills a sense of hope and wonder in his fellow patients and even in his psychologist. The question remains: Is he who he claims to be, or is there a more human secret?

This study guide will help you discuss the themes in the film K-PAX. How can mystery and faith exist in our modern world? What is the source of hope? Where can we find healing? And, how can we be more aware of, and loving towards, those around us?
