Overview
Many times what needs to change is something we have not been able to change. Were not talking about something like biting your fingernails or not being on time. In this series were talking about big problems, the things that hold us back and drag us down: addictions, compulsions, persistent personal problems. These problems are often about overdoing something: overdrinking, overeating, overgambling, overspending, oversexing, overworking, overreacting, overworrying, overcriticizing, over-you-name-it!
God has given us a way to change: confess, repent, obey. These studies will encourage us to let these three words become seared into our hearts and minds so they can bring about change.
Session One
Change What I Say
Change begins with confession.
2 Samuel 11:115, 12:114; Psalm 51:117, 103:1113
The first study examines how we can change what we say.
Session Two
Change What I Think
We need to change our belief system.
Isaiah 55:7; Ezekiel 18:3032; Joel 2:13; Acts 7:548:3, 9:119; 2 Corinthians 11:2328; 1 Timothy 1:1214
This study will urge us to make a decision to turn away from our sinful actions and toward God and the person God created us to be.
Session Three
Change What I Do
I cant change unless I obey God.
Ephesians 4:29; 1 Thessalonians 2:7; Hebrews 3:1214, 10:2325
This study explores why obeying always involves choosing, through the power of faith, both a no and a yes: the no is what not to do, and the yes is what to do in response to Gods Word and direction.
Session Four
Change Where I Go
Connection with a community is essential to change.
Acts 18:13, 1819, 2428; Colossians 3:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:1011; Hebrews 10:2425
This study will demonstrate that we are meant to rely on Gods strength and power through the power of authentic biblical community.
